What to Expect at Your Visit
Services

A prenatal home visit is a great way to prepare your family for infant feeding. This consult can be done at anytime during your pregnancy.
In this appointment, we will discuss breast- and chestfeeding basics, review optimal positioning and latch, assess the lactating parent's health history to identify potential challenges, and build a plan for infant feeding in the first weeks postpartum. This visit allows parents to address any specific questions and concerns they may have regarding infant feeding.
This visit may be especially helpful to families who have experienced previous infant feeding challenges, who are preparing to breast- or chestfeed multiples, who have a history of breast, chest, or nipple surgery, who are planning for a surgical birth, or who have a history of hormonal concerns such as insulin dependent diabetes, PCOS, or infertility.
-
An initial home visit will begin with a review of the lactating parent's and infant's health history, birth, and feeding experience to date. The consult will include a full feeding assessment, a physical assessment of the lactating parent's breast/chest, an evaluation of infant oral function, an infant weight check including pre-and post-feed weights, and an individualized written plan of care.
These visits are designed to support parents in getting infant feeding off to a good start and to address infant feeding challenges related to position and latch, nipple pain, milk supply, pumping, introducing bottles, engorgement, plugged ducts, feeding multiples, weaning, and more.
-
A follow up home visit allows for an assessment of progress and a reevaluation of your care plan. This includes a follow up feeding assessment, an infant weight check including pre- and post-feed weights, and an updated written plan of care to address your infant feeding concerns.
